Blue and White Vase With the Phoenix above the Dragon Motif

Blue and White Vase

The vase one side is almost blank except drawing of cloud and the other side is  painted with a fierce phoenix hovering over a dragon looking forward the phoenix which is deeply appreciated by Ci Xi Dowager of Ching Dynasty .

The drawing showed the strong characteristic of the Tung Chih era  (AD 1862-1875 )

It is unique as in traditional China society  , the phoenix symbolizes female and the dragon symbolizes the emperor ,the female could never be on top of the male, especially on top of the emperor . This piece has been with me for more than 20 years.

Size : about 46 cm x 20cm

More in progress..
